      Hello faithful readers!

We now come to the end of our journey together. This is a wonderful book.

Hallesby closes us out by making two things very clear. First, prayer is not easy. Second, it is by the Spirit that we pray rightly. We need to pray to the Spirit that we would pray rightly!

It is amazing that he speaks of “distracted and busy lives” back in 1931. How much more distracted are we today?!? We need the Spirit more than ever to teach us to pray, because we need prayer more than ever. He is right: “we can make use of our time in no better way.” May we all pray and pray some more until we live lives of prayer unto God!

I truly hope you enjoyed this book as much as I do. It is a powerful reminder that prayer is God’s work in us and through us more than anything we do. That is how good our God is!

Thank you, Pastor Lee for leading us through prayer. I am praying that the spirit of prayer will envelop me to remind me to pray and to not be distracted.

Hallesby does a great job in the final chapter of highlighting the main points of each chapter, with the common theme of the amazing gift we’ve been given of the Spirit of Prayer. We don’t have to do this challenging life alone, we’ve been given Christ’s Spirit to comfort, guide and empower us and we don’t have to struggle in prayer alone either -He prays with and for us. And our prayers outlive us, more valuable than a legacy of wealth, they continue to bless those we’ve prayed for, “they will reap what we have sown.” Finally I appreciate how the author finishes by encouraging us to “make the hour of our departure from this life a subject of prayer; that we might glorify God by our deaths.” So many try to avoid thinking about such but not only does thinking about, discussing and yes praying about it help decrease the possible fear involved, it also helps us better live with that heavenly, eternal perspective which in turn helps us live more Christ-like lives. Definitely a timely word.
