Many these days are aware that our NJ public schools aspire to many things, however joyful learning and solid academics too often are missing. As families contemplate their child’s educational priorities, they are quickly confronted by a dizzying number of options. Can we make government school work? If so, how? If not, what alternatives are there? Perhaps private? Is homeschooling something our family could actually do? How does that happen? Can I still work a job? Get information and let’s have a conversation, on Friday October 6, 2023 at 7:30pm at MCC.
While currently a big fan of Montessori, Amy is happy to share her expertise across the board in alternative education with today’s parents seeking options. Amy ‘Montessori’ Galarowicz experienced the joy of learning as a child and now seeks to encourage others in it. Her Montessori grade school developed her ‘mathematical mind’ and led to a degree in electrical engineering. After working ten years in manufacturing, happily getting opportunities to learn new things every day, she then stayed home to raise her two sons. Ever the curious learner and leader, she researched education alternatives along the way, co-authored a book on “2007 Education Alternatives in Northern NJ,” and then obtained her Montessori teaching credential for ages 6-12. On that journey, she discovered the original Christian foundation of the Montessori Method. Amy delighted in the many ways the robust elementary curriculum explores history, the natural sciences, geography, biblical human culture, and… that it all points to God! The study of and facility with language and math are but the means to quantify God’s creation, and indeed fun we have by diving deep into hands-on math, geometry, literature, grammar, sentence structure, art, music and more. All the better to know our gracious Lord.
